What is your calendar telling you? Are you spending time on the right things?

I don’t know about you, but I use my calendar as my roadmap – it drives my activities.

It also holds me accountable!

What it boils down to me, from the perspective of coaching other individuals and with organizations, is that if your calendar does NOT reflect you key priorities and goals, you’re not spending time on the right things. Said differently, you’re not being as productive as you could be.

Let’s face it – time is our most precious asset. It’s also finite – we DON’T get more of it! So when we run out of it, we run out of it, whether we’ve spent time on the most valuable or least valuable things. Imagine you look back after a long hard week and realize you missed out on precious family time. Let me tell you, if you’re experiencing that, it get’s old fast and becomes more and more frustrating. Hence, the reason to be BRUTAL about how you spend your time.

From an organizational and professional standpoint, if you’re that person that’s willing to tell your manager you couldn’t achieve the goal because you ran out of time, then I would suggest your manager is going to tell you that you don’t know how to most effectively manage your time. Using your calendar, and more importantly, measuring what you accomplish on a weekly basis will be a great asset for you as you march toward the achievement of your goals.
